MASHHAD, Khorasan Province The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has presented Iran's Literacy Movement with an international award and certificate of merit, it was announced here Thursday.
Deputy Head of the Literacy Movement for Educational Affairs Bahador Karimi told IRNA here that the award and certificate were presented to the movement for its efforts in carrying out programs for the education of girls who did not have access to schooling.
Karimi said that the Literacy Movement managed to implement the plan in six provinces of the country in the last academic year.
The Literacy Movement has also received UNESCO awards in 1991 and 1998 for the successful implementation of its plans in the areas of literacy mobilization and applied education.
He further remarked that the movement with cooperation of UNESCO has translated 10 foreign book and printed them under the title Truth for Life' in one million copies for the use of beginners.
Karimi said that 70,000 classes are planned for 1.2 million beginners during the new academic year, starting September 23.
